Fowler-Sabin calculator — binaural hearing loss
Enter the hearing thresholds from your audiogram for the left and right ear. Using the Fowler-Sabin method, the calculator estimates the percentage of hearing impairment for each ear and the binaural (overall) loss. Your inputs stay on your device.
Important: The Fowler-Sabin method is an orientational model for estimating the binaural (overall) percentage of hearing loss from thresholds at 500, 1000, 2000, and 4000 Hz, with weighting factors of 15%, 30%, 40%, and 15%. Binaural loss = (5 × better ear + 1 × worse ear) / 6. The calculator does not replace a clinical audiology report or an ENT specialist’s assessment. The exact degree of impairment, the type of loss (conductive / sensorineural / mixed), and decisions on treatment or hearing amplification are made by a physician after a complete examination.
